Techniques

Here are some of the techniques I use in my sessions:

    • Hands-on therapy to help your child learn how to move using a better or more normal movement pattern
    • Playing in different positions either with the support of special equipment or with support from me
    • Specific massage or myofascial release techniques in areas of stiffness or tightness
    • Elastic therapeutic taping (also referred to as Kinesio Taping) to activate or stabilise certain muscles and joints
    • Strengthening activities
    • Teaching you specific ways of handling, playing with and supporting your child so you can provide plenty of opportunities for your child to practise moving in new ways

I am also able to advise on a variety of issues including:

    • What equipment would benefit your child and where to get them from
    • Whether supportive footwear or orthotics is required
    • Communication and behaviour management techniques that may help increase your child’s participation in therapy activities
    • Whether certain medical procedures may be worth considering, for example, bone surgery, tendon lengthening, botulinum toxin injections (Botox) or selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR)
    • How to keep yourself safe and reduce the risk of getting injured
