What To Expect

When you contact me I will email you a form to fill in and send back to me so I can get as much information about your child and about your concerns before I see them in person. This also means that more of the first session is spent assessing and treating your child rather than gathering information.

First assessment

The information you provide on the form will help me to identify your child’s needs, and decide which aspects of their development I will need to assess. During the assessment, I will observe and analyse how your child moves and does a variety of activities. I will see what your child does spontaneously and then I will encourage them to do some specific activities or get into certain positions. Please be aware that this may require getting your child undressed so I have a clear view of their muscles and joints. I may also have a feel of their joints and muscles and in some cases, it might be necessary to measure the range of movement of these joints. I will give you some feedback about my findings and will discuss some possible therapy aims and goals. Your child will receive some treatment within the session.

Subsequent treatment sessions

Therapy sessions are fun and play based as children learn best when they are relaxed and happy. You will be actively involved in the therapy sessions too! During these sessions I will be using various techniques to encourage your child to move in a better or more normal way. There may be times where I will be giving your child a lot of support and there may be times where they are being more challenged.
